12 Steps to Taking Data: ------------------------ The following is only a coarse outline of the procedure to use for taking data by the shift crew. For additional details refer to specific documentation. Once PHYSICS RUNNING declared on RHIC Broadcast: 1.) Check radiation levels: chipmunks must read less than 1000 micro-rad/s on RADMON 2.) Switch PCAL high voltage from UNSTBEAM.DAT to correct running file on PCAL terminal 3.) Switch SpeCAL high voltage from UNSTBEAM.DAT to correct running file on SpeCAL terminal 4.) Quit DAQ GUI on DAQ X-term 5.) Turn on Si low voltage (FEC PS) on SIMON 6.) Start DAQ for ALLBEAM run without writing 7.) Reset Si latch-ups 8.) Re-check radiation and background levels 9.) Ramp the bias on the Si (turn on Si high voltage) on SIMON 10.) Reset Si latch-ups and wait 5 minutes 11.) Start DAQ with writing in the correct trigger configuration on the GUI 12.) Verify status in run logbook on portal Stop and restart a new run every hour. 5 or 6 Steps at the end of a Store: ----------------------------------- For a controlled dump of the beam: 1.) Stop the run on DAQ GUI 2.) Turn off Silicon 3.) Switch PCAL high voltage to UNSTBEAM.DAT on PCAL terminal 4.) Switch SpeCAL high voltage to UNSTBEAM.DAT on SpeCAL terminal 5.) Start DAQ for ALLBEAM run without writing For an uncontrolled dump of the beam: 1.) Wait until MCR ramps down PHOBOS magnet 2.) Stop the run on DAQ GUI 3.) Turn off Silicon 4.) Switch PCAL high voltage to UNSTBEAM.DAT on PCAL terminal 5.) Switch SpeCAL high voltage to UNSTBEAM.DAT on SpeCAL terminal 6.) Start DAQ for ALLBEAM run without writing Every 4 hours record number of hours data-taking on clipboard.
